Additionally, the report found that 77% of Gen Z members surveyed said that it’s important to choose a career that’s difficult to automate. According to the Jobber report, only 16% of Gen Z parents now believe that a college degree guarantees long-term job security. Instead, many are starting to see the potential of trade occupations, with 56% listing carpenters, 54% listing plumbers, and 51% listing electricians as careers that are safest from automation.

This shift in perspective is long overdue, as the reality is that many trade occupations are not only essential but also highly rewarding. By providing more guidance and support, and by breaking down the stigmas surrounding trade work, we can encourage more young people to pursue careers in these fields.
