EJAE Shows Her Vulnerable Side In New Single, ’In Another World’
EJAE’s Journey to Self-Discovery and Musical Expression
EJAE, a 33-year-old Korean American singer-songwriter, has recently released her debut single, “In Another World.” This powerful and heartfelt song showcases her wide, soulful vocal range and dynamics, marking a new chapter in her music career. EJAE’s journey to this point has been anything but straightforward, with a history of rejection and self-doubt that has ultimately shaped her into the artist she is today.
From K-Pop Trainee to Songwriter and Beyond
EJAE spent her teenage years as a K-pop trainee, hoping to debut as a singer. However, after facing repeated rejection, she found solace in songwriting, creating hits for multiple K-pop acts, including aespa, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM, and TWICE. This experience not only helped her develop her craft but also allowed her to work behind the scenes, away from the scrutiny of the public eye. Despite her success as a songwriter, EJAE never expected to release her own music, but the global phenomenon of the Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters, for which she wrote the music and provided the singing voice for the lead character, Rumi, changed everything.
The film’s soundtrack, which features EJAE’s song “Golden,” became a massive hit, breaking records and reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 8 weeks. This unexpected success propelled EJAE to stardom, and she found herself struggling to come to terms with the sudden attention. She has always felt insecure about her singing voice, and the thought of her voice being praised and beloved by so many people was, in her words, “surreal.”
A New Chapter: “In Another World” and Beyond
EJAE’s debut single, “In Another World,” is a deeply personal song that she wrote about her relationship with her now-fiancé during a rough patch. The song is a reflection on the idea of accepting one’s baggage and demons, and imagining a world where they do not exist. Writing the song was a cathartic experience for EJAE, and it helped her to grow and heal. The music video for the song features old family footage of young EJAE singing in choir and playing the piano, serving as a reflection on her past life and the different worlds she has lived.
EJAE is determined to use her platform to uplift others, particularly those behind the scenes in the music industry. She wants to shed light on the importance of songwriters and the role they play in creating the music we love. With her debut single, “In Another World,” EJAE is taking the first step towards a new chapter in her music career, one that promises to be filled with creativity, self-expression, and a commitment to using her voice to make a positive impact.
EJAE plans to release more songs in the future, possibly in both English and Korean, and is excited to explore different genres and sounds. She wants to be a chameleon in her own way, creating music that is true to herself and her artistic vision. With “In Another World” now available on all streaming platforms, EJAE is ready to share her music with the world, and her journey is only just beginning.
