Rubrik’s introduction of Agent Cloud reflects the industry’s broader effort to apply Zero Trust principles to data protection in the AI era. The platform aims to provide organizations with visibility into how AI agents interact with enterprise data, while enforcing policy-based access controls and compliance monitoring. By integrating with existing AI ecosystems, such as OpenAI and Azure OpenAI Service, Agent Cloud seeks to help customers govern, observe, and secure agentic activity across hybrid environments. The goal is to ensure that progress in AI innovation does not come at the cost of control, as emphasized by Rubrik’s CEO, Bipul Sinha.

Data Hygiene and Identity Foundations

According to Glenn, the root of the issue lies in enterprise data hygiene rather than in any specific tool. Organizations need to understand where their data resides, the type of data they have, who has access to it, and whether it is adequately secured. AI agents are revealing long-standing weaknesses in data management, exposing vulnerabilities and risks that were previously unknown or unprioritized. As companies deploy AI systems that access shared repositories, even minor misconfigurations can have significant consequences. Continuous monitoring and granular authorization are essential to mitigate these risks.

Trust as a Metric for AI Velocity

The introduction of Rubrik Agent Cloud is part of a broader industry trend, where vendors are reframing their capabilities as components of data trust infrastructure for AI. The logic is straightforward: as AI systems increasingly depend on enterprise data, the integrity and provenance of that data become part of the security perimeter. Every technology shift creates tension between innovation and control, but the difference with AI is that agentic systems act autonomously, making decisions faster than humans can oversee them. This reality has elevated “trust” as a new measure of AI readiness, with governance viewed not as a constraint but as a prerequisite for scale.
